I read a sign recently that simply asked, “Are you living your passion?”
It was a good question.
On Saturday I found myself talking to my six-year-old niece, Cin, about her passion.
“I love Maths,” she told me.
She said when she grows up she wants to be a teacher.
“I want to teach Maths and everything!” she said.
Her face glowed with excitement, happiness and determination as she told me. The idea of being a teacher filled her with passion and joy.
Cin then asked what I love to do.
“I love to write,” I said.
“Why?” she asked.
That’s when my face started to glow with excitement, happiness and determination.
“I write because it helps me express how I feel about life,” I said.
“I write because sometimes people read my stories and it makes them feel better.
“I write because it can help other people make the world a better place.”
To an observer, it may have seemed an unusual conversation to have with a six-year-old. But Cin’s passion matched my own.
By asking what I loved, she reminded how I love my writing and crystalised my reasons for doing it.
My passion for words, their ability to tell meaningful stories across multiple platforms, and their undeniable and unstoppable ability to help others, goes to the very core of who I am.
It is my passion, just as teaching “Maths and everything” is Cin’s passion.
I’m going to encourage Cin to pursue teaching and any other passions she may discover as she gets older. Passionate people change the world and so will she.
In the meantime, I’m grateful for her timely reminder of my own purpose in this world, to write, and I will keep on doing it.
Do you know what your passion is?
Some what, I’m still a work in progress haha After 30 years you’d think I’d have it, but not just yet. Soon though, soon. 🙂
We’re all a work in progress 🙂 Your passion may be something you never make a dime from. But it will make you feel alive and joyful. Do whatever makes you feel that way and it will fuel the rest of your life with joy too. x
It used to be dancing, not any particular kind, just dancing. Then I got sick, and have been unable for the most part for the last two years. Waiting until I can get back to some level of that, and keeping myself sane with a lot of random things
Lol I’m just tired of random, I’m ready for something, near anything, so I wait…….
I can feel you straining to move ahead OddGirl. You’re like a horse champing at the bit who just wants to run. So it’s time to move. Stop waiting Just move and take one step forward into the void in front of you. Through movement will come clarity and lightness. x
Funny on that last sentence, just today I described myself in chaos and how I flourished in it: I was once Meditation in Motion, and so I soon will be again. I will, however, begin with that first step into the void……I think I was afraid once, and now I’ve just dithered, holding off the inevitable, though why I couldn’t say. Maybe permission, a friendly push? Ah, to know what the gods think. Lol Thank you for the reply, inspiring, and oddly, much needed. Perfect timing, poetry in motion from those I encounter on this journey. I thank you for it, and wish you many prosperous days ahead. )o(
My pleasure OddGirl. The universe works in wonderfully mysterious ways doesn’t it. xo
Absolutely XD Lol
