Psychic Growth Spurts and other Surprises

Psychic Growth Spurts and other Surprises

I spotted a learner driver while I was on my afternoon walk yesterday. He was in his parent’s car and had slowed down a little jerkily to negotiate a roundabout. There was a look of intense concentration on his face. He didn’t want to stuff up but he wasn’t sure what he was doing. He was a learner.

It struck me that when you first begin to recognise and use your energetic/psychic skills, you are very much like that learner driver. You can see the road up ahead that you wish to navigate, but you don’t always know where the right gear is and sometimes you stall in the middle of the road while the traffic banks up behind you. It’s uncomfortable and often a little nerve-wracking. You think, ‘Why don’t I know how to do this?’, ‘Everyone is looking at me, I’m drawing attention to myself’ and ‘I should be able to get this right because it looks so easy for everyone else.’ A range of other less positive thoughts can also complete a few loops of your brain at various times of the day and night.

The truth is, being energetically sensitive (or psychic) can be challenging because it doesn’t follow a textbook process in the way it develops. You might have very strong skills in particular areas from a young age. Or you might find that it kicks in without little warning when you’re 17, 35, 40 or 65-years-old (with only occasional insights before then). Then you’ll experience what I call ‘psychic growth spurts’ at odd times and suddenly find you have a new skills you weren’t aware of and need to learn how to manage.

My Spirit Guides used to tell me, ‘Just trust the process’ but sometimes it’s really hard to trust something that no one else is experiencing or knows about. I have fought that ‘trust’ on many an occasion – not that it does much good to fight who you are because you’re actually fighting yourself (and you can’t win that battle).

I know firsthand how uncomfortable the process can be. I have fought the battle of ‘control’ and lost. Control of anything except your behaviour in this moment, is an illusion. However, management is possible and highly advisable.

Your energetic/psychic skills are a gift to be managed. Your soul chose to have them in this lifetime and it is up to you to use them wisely to help yourself and others to create a better world in whatever way (big or small) feels right for you.

But just like that learner driver, you must learn how to manage your gifts or sometimes they will manage you. You must also learn that it is a process of learning that will last a lifetime. You are on a journey and every speed bump you drive over will take you to a better place. But sometimes it will be uncomfortable.

However, despite this, always remember that although your journey is unique, you are not alone. There are lots of other people who are having similar experiences as they negotiate their psychic roundabouts for the first time.

It’s a process. It’s a journey. And there are other people like you.

Do you need help to manage your energetic/psychic gifts? My six-session Intuition Connection program will provide you with the skills and techniques you need to help you understand and manage your gifts and live your purpose.

Psychic Connections: Are you blocking your intuition?

Psychic Connections: Are you blocking your intuition?

‘Holy crap! That was close!’ I’d just watched a Myna bird swoop through the eatery, missing my friend’s head by mere centimetres as it passed.

‘I don’t know what it is but the birds have it in for me lately,’ my friend said. ‘That’s not the first one to get that close.’

‘Are they trying to tell you something?’ I asked.

‘I don’t know, probably. I don’t have time to tune into that right now. I’ve got other things to do.’

‘What if the message they have could actually help you with all that stuff?’ I asked. My friend shrugged and changed the subject.

My friend’s reaction isn’t unusual. The more I work with people to help them tune into their intuition, the more I realise a lot of us have become very, very skilled at ignoring the messages the Universe sends us. For some it’s because they don’t want to deal with something but they know their intuition – or gut feeling – is telling them very clearly to take action. For others, they just don’t trust themselves enough to believe their intuition knows best.

So what have the birds got to do with intuition?

Well, if for some reason you’re not listening to your intuition, the Universe will frequently send you the information in another way. I don’t think the birds swooping on my friend in a few different locations within a relatively short period of time was an accident. The Universe was trying to get her attention.

And I think if she’d stopped and asked what that message was, she would have got a pretty clear answer inside herself. And it would probably be the first thing that popped into her head.

Here’s another example. You have an important document you need to put out for your business but you keep hitting roadblocks. You believe you’ve done everything right but every time you try to launch, it falls over. You keep persevering but it just won’t go. It’s frustrating beyond belief and you’re stuck.

This happened to me recently and I have to say, I was beside myself. I’d worked for so long to get this thing happening but it just wouldn’t go.

At this point, a wise friend said, ‘Have you asked why it won’t go?’

‘No!!’ I said grumpily. ‘I just want it f@cking gone!’ I was so fed up.

But I did ask the Universe and the answer came clearly, ‘It’s not time yet. It’s not ready to go.’

Did this information have me drumming my heels in frustration? Absolutely! But did I realise I had to suck it up and stop fighting? Yes (annoying, but yes).

In the case of my document, it is about timing. If you’re experiencing a similar situation it could be about timing too. Or it could be because there’s something you’ve missed in your document that you need to fix. You’ll have to ask the Universe to tell you.

Once you start to tune into this stuff, you’ll be amazed at the extra level of knowledge you have access to. And it’s all designed to help you lead the best possible life you can. It’s working for you, not against you. So if something keeps happening repeatedly (a particular situation, or an idea or a person keeps popping into your mind), then ask why? Are you supposed to do something differently? Ask the question and wait for the answer. But remember, the answer will not be fear-driven, it will intuitive (these two are quite different things and sometimes it can take a bit of practice to work out the difference between the two).

As for my friend, I’m sure she’ll get the message eventually. The Universe can be very persistent and, if you ignore what it’s trying to tell you, it will just send the information in another way (often even more disruptively) until it gets through. That’s just how it works. Avoidance is ultimately useless.

So when something happens persistently in your life, it might be worth you stopping to ask what’s really going on. Or you can ignore the messages and eventually a bird might take your eye out. It’s your call.

Would you like to develop your intuition? My Intuition Connection Program might be exactly what you’re looking for.

Psychic Connections: Undercover Psychics

undercover psychicI’m often struck by the paradox of being a modern psychic. I live in the world typing on my laptop, Googling, Facebooking and using other technologies every day, yet I also receive messages from the Universe in a way that cannot be explained by traditional science or rational understanding. It’s a strange world to inhabit and on the weekend something happened that hilariously (to me, at least) illustrated how these two contradictory ways of being, co-exist.

I was catching up with a wonderful friend of mine. She is a powerful psychic channel and also a high-level corporate executive. Of course, the people she works with don’t know about her ‘extra gifts’ because they would be unlikely to take her seriously and she has important work to do. So instead she shares her gifts surreptitiously, making the world a better place by shifting organisations gently forward and helping people to realise their potential through mentoring and insights. But it’s all undercover and for her, that’s the way it needs to be.

It’s kind of sad my friend can’t be completely open about who she is all the time because her capacity to help others is extraordinary. But as we talked about this, she did something that made me laugh so hard I nearly fell off my chair.

We were seated at my kitchen table with our mobile phones in front of us (because everyone has their phones with them all the time these days) and the conversation went something like this:

Me: ‘It’s a shame we can’t all be open about this stuff.’

My friend: ‘Well, I can hardly say [as she lifted her hands to the ceiling and said in melodramatic tones] “I have received messages from the 10th dimension and been told this is what we need to do to improve our business processes. They’d never take me seriously again!”’

Then she lowered her hands, picked up her phone, and all I heard was the bip bip bip as she rapidly typed a text message to a friend.

The bizarreness of our conversation did not escape me and I honestly couldn’t stop laughing for quite some time.

To most people looking in from the outside, the exchange would have seemed very odd indeed – a high level executive talking about messages from another dimension, business processes and using a mobile phone all within less than a minute. How can that co-exist and make any sense?

My friend and I could definitely appreciate the ridiculousness of it all.

But the truth is, there are people with psychic ability in all walks of life and at all levels of our corporate, government and industrial world. We walk among you and we’re not really that strange. And the reason we have these gifts is to help others and make this world a better place, whatever our unique purpose is.

My friend is, I guess, an undercover psychic, helping people in subtle ways to reach their goals and realise their dreams. She is a magical person dressed in a corporate suit.

Perhaps one day she will be able to ‘come out’ but that time is not now. Instead she will continue her valuable work, making a difference while the many people who benefit from her wisdom will be none the wiser.

What a strange world it is indeed.

Psychic Business: How do I know my intuition is real?

Intuitive peopleSome people spend time doubting their intuition. They wonder if it’s really ‘real’. ‘How do I know it’s not just my anxiety,’ a friend once asked me. It was a good question and not uncommon.

It can be challenging to trust your intuition because many of us have been raised to ignore it. Instead we seek the ‘evidence’ that a choice is the right one to make. We must weigh everything up, this way and that, before finally ‘knowing’ we’ve made the right choice. This type of knowing is all about rational thought, reason and the cultural traditions of our western society.

I believe all those things are really important. We have reason and rationality to help us problem-solve, bring projects to fruition, create and develop as human beings. But what if intuition can also play a huge part in that process?

We all have intuition. Sometimes it warns us that something is wrong while other times it can shows us a better way to do things. It is an extra sense that shouldn’t be discounted just because it doesn’t ‘make sense’.

Some of the most successful people I know use both their intuition and rational thought in partnership. It is a powerful and liberating combination because it enables them to use all their skills to achieve their goals. Do they still make mistakes, feel pain, fall over and get up again? Absolutely. They are human and we’re all here to learn. But their forward progress, the development of their self-knowledge, and their surety of purpose always returns. They accept unexpected events and twists more easily although others might find it more unsettling. They understand there is often a reason these things happen. They embrace random conversations that deliver unexpected droplets of information. They realise everything is connected and, when you couple this understanding with a strong inner knowing and a clear and grounded rational purpose, things shift. Sometimes this happens in a way that you don’t want (at the time), other times it moves things along in ways that you could never have foreseen.

I believe your intuition is a gift you can connect into to make your life and the world a better place. It can help you keep on track and show you a world of possibilities you didn’t see before.

As for the question about discerning the difference between your anxiety and intuition, well, I think that’s about practice, trusting yourself and improving your self-knowledge while remaining nicely grounded with your feet on the ground.

How to Travel on Faith

faithI wasn’t brought up as a religious person. In fact, on our Easter holidays, when Mum and Dad would inevitably take my sisters and I to some camping ground in the Australian bush, you could frequently find me arguing with the local Christian group. They were the unofficial babysitters who provided free movies and activities for the kids and gave the adults some much-needed alone time.

From memory, my questions for these people usually featured the word ‘why’ a lot and relied heavily on rational and reasonable thought. I’m sure they cringed when they saw me coming and thought I was a pain in the backside.

My parents said we could decide what we believed when we grew up and, until then, our religion was officially Church of England. But we only went to church for weddings and there was definitely no Sunday School (thank goodness!).

As a teenager and then a younger adult I was a self-confessed atheist/agnostic. I guess I was hedging my bets with that stance.

A couple of years ago, a good friend (who’d known me in my 20s) asked me what I thought about God now. I’d just shared the story of my psychic awakening with her and I guess she was trying to get her bearings.

‘I’m not sure,’ I said. ‘I don’t believe in God like they teach you in the Bible and I still don’t buy into any religious doctrine. But I believe there is an energetic force that binds us all together.’

So I guess, despite all those cynical years spent harassing hapless Christians at the camping grounds, I have discovered faith after all. It is a faith that we are all connected; individual yet part of something bigger than ourselves. And I’ve realised that faith cannot be reasoned through. It is not about the rational mind. Instead it springs from a deep inner knowing based on what I’ve seen, felt and just know within my soul.

At 12 or 22 if you’d said I would learn we all have souls and return again and again to live in human form (thus explaining some of my déjà vu experiences), I would have dismissed your comments as fantastical. If you’d suggested I would eventually connect with spirit guides and family who’d passed over, I would have laughingly waved you away. And if you said I would uncover a strong capacity to feel what others were experiencing when they were nearby or even suburbs or oceans away, I would have felt very uncomfortable indeed.

But these days I know all those things to be true and I reflect on that mouthy teenager and shake my head. I gave those people in the campground such a hard time about their faith…and now I have discovered my own.

It’s funny how life turns out, isn’t it.
